We are primarily a volunteer lead ministry. We have one part-time staff member—Rev. Wendy Hansen-Smith, one part-time ministry intern from the Methodist Theological School in Ohio—Brenda—and a large team of incredibly dedicated volunteers who are the hands and feet living into our mission and vision. We are supported by a wide range of churches, businesses and individual who come alongside us, providing financial support, donating personal hygiene items, sharing gently used men’s clothing, and receiving referrals for additional support for members of our community.

Together, we create a caring, safe place to build a community of belonging in the Short North area of downtown Columbus. Volunteers provide much-needed personal interaction which is often missing in the lives of persons without a home, those struggling with mental health and addictions, and those living on the edge of society. We offer opportunities for all people to serve and to come together in community and learn from each other.

The focus of our community is to serve God and to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. We share Sunday morning breakfast together, and offer free medical care every other Sunday morning. A local attorney provides legal education and assistance once a month. Our unique clothing room seeks to outfit men for interviews and jobs in a variety of fields, as well a provide warmth and dignity for men who are without homes.

New Life Community Outreach is  an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.  We are governed by a Board of Directors that are responsible for fulfilling the purpose and operations of the services. They are also responsible for the organization’s vision, accountability and sustainability.
